Hello, I’m Patty Soud, certified personal trainer, body and exercise physiologist expert and an avid surfer.
I’ve been training surfers and athletes of all ages and ability levels for over 12 years, using a combination of functional exercises and targeted range of motion stretching.
The most important thing about training is having the right plan in-place in-order to achieve the results you are looking for.
I’ll show you that proper, performance-oriented training does not need to be painful, complicated or even overly competitive in order to produce huge results. In fact, it should be quite the opposite – you should be training to both improve strength and ability level, but also to help prevent injury and reverse the aging process.
When it comes to training smart – strength and flexibility go hand-in-hand. And, training one without the other just won’t produce the long-term results you are looking for as a surfer.
Too much strength training without proper stretching will result in stiff muscles, limited range of motion and limited style in the water.
Vice versa – if all you do is yoga and stretching, then your body is lacking the strength and resistance training it needs to really improve balance and coordination on your board and increase paddling strength and endurance.

Surf Training Myths and Gimmicks
There’s plenty of surf training gimmicks out there.
Seldom are these programs put together by an actual trainer with hands-on experience coaching and training a wide variety of people. Fact is, most of these workouts don’t work simply because they are designed around a poor training philosophy.
The problem with most surf training programs is that they put too much focus on…
– Complicated weightlifting moves that promote bad form and injury – Using weights that are too heavy and training in this manner too many times per week – Over-training shoulder and paddling muscles – Performing ridiculous balance exercises that supposedly “simulate” surfing – Overly strenuous workouts that are too long, leaving your body devoid of energy and dangerously sore – Workouts that restrict mobility and create tight, muscles with limited range of motion – Not enough emphasis on lower body strength training and flexibility (hint – this is your real power source)This type of training advice and methodology does not work and often puts your body at risk for injury. Running through 1 round of the workout takes about 30 to 40 minutes depending on how much rest you need in-between each exercise.
We recommend training 3 to 5 days each week. This will give you the absolute best results. In the program, we coach you through getting started and how to progress through of the 3 levels.
However, you might find 2x per week of the program is where you need to be, if you’re just starting out.
First of all – great choice to start training!! We provide detailed notes on how to get started with the program, as well as how to safely progress. All of the exercises outlined in the program are safe for anyone to try and
